While we started engineering our new platform, we felt it was necessary to put some order in the content we produced over the past few months.
As of now, our show is sindacated on all the major video platforms available: youtube, revver, howcast, blip tv etc...
In the past year, it seems that many of us have been upgrading our video systems; almost everybody now has a widescreen TV in their home, and a few of us developed some kind of maniacal obsession toward “TV on Demand”...the affordable empowerment of picking and choosing, downloading and trashing.

Therefore, in a couple of weeks from now, our Podcast on the iTunes store will be Apple TV ready: the downloadable file will become noticeably bigger, and the resolution on your computer or TV will be doubled! The only somewhat disappointing note is that from now on, subscribers that wish to transfer our cooking show on their iPod or iPhones will have to convert the file within iTunes. We also decided to reconvert all our episodes and post them in Hi-Res, reorganized by season, with new graphics and a couple of special treats we are working on....so, please be patient as our episodes won’t be available on iTunes for a few days, we will come back stronger then ever!

The Show won’t be affected by this “summer cleanup”, and our episodes will still be posted regularly on the website!
We hope you all are well, we’ll be back with a new recipe next week.
Take care
Debi and Gabriele
<span style="font:12px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; What about Yesterday? What about each single day of our life?
I apologize for the very personal space I am taking today on this blog, but...
in this exact moment, instead of a burst of energy, wishful thoughts and good attitude, well, I sit down and feel such a small creature of Nature.
I do remember when I was a kid, and the weather was different, I remember the fluctuation of seasons, the changing colors, the muffled sounds of life when everything was covered with snow, right before spring "used to come"...
We all feel the same way, to a degree...maybe people with kids care just a bit more; if we do not act for our sake, well, at least let's try to think about our children!

I grew up in the country, and to a degree, I saw it dying...day by day, succumbing to industrial farming, not being able to perform under such pressure.
It made me sad, and made me feel helpless...I was young.
Now it's different. I am a husband and a father, I am older and just a bit wiser...well, at least wise enough to realize that now, finally and for real, I am running short of time.
And even if I have been conscious about these issues for many years now, something happened last Sunday that shook me very hard: I came across this Article on the New York Times Sunday Magazine.
Nothing really new, to any of us that are informed about the health condition of our planet...but for the very first time, I asked myself: "What am I waiting for?"

It is not anymore a matter of switching light bulbs around the house or start timing my showers. Things are getting more serious and more complicated by the day.
As of now, we consume 10 calories of fossil fuel to produce 1 calorie of organic vegetables, our (the world) need of meat is responsible for a massive carbon footprint that will lead one day to a dead end, we are still highly dependable on oil...I do expect vegetables from life, I will never stop eating meat, and like everybody else I will keep on driving my car and heating my house.

If two and a half years of diapers for each one of my kids equals to 5 cut trees, I am responsible for 10 trees in the past four years (plus about 1.400 Lbs of plastic and about 2.000 pints of crude oil) ...only in diapers...what about all the rest? What about the toilet paper they will need for the rest of their lives?
The catch here is that We Can Not Stop. We do need energy, we do need to live and survive, and keep on moving forward, we need to keep on cutting trees, pollute and produce an incredible amount of garbage.
These days, unfortunately, there is basically only one choice left. Try to be responsible for yourself, Do Not Depend. And this is very sad, because not all of us have to opportunity to choose this way of life.

Let me explain,
I decided that my Earth Day resolution is to go back to my land and live by the most natural principles I know.
Today, early this morning everything got finally very clear...not easy, just clear.
Today I decided that I will ask my wife to leave Los Angeles and all the associated glitter, and trade it all in for a life in Tuscany, with a vegetable garden, a few animals, the olive threes....and some good work to do, finally fix our house. We will trade our two cars for one small car, a goat and a cow!
You might have read before in these pages about our little pink house in Tuscany, and "our dream" of moving there...well, for me the dreaming is over as of now, it is time to roll up my sleeves, pack my family and ship our lives on the hills of Florence.

My children need to know. They need to grow in respect of our earth, our first and final resource. I have been privileged and lucky enough to have a visionary grandfather, that invested everything he had in land and olive trees...
Now all that is available for me and my family. It will require years of sweat and hard work, a lot of sacrifice on everybody's part.
But really, when the mud will finally hit the fan, where do I want my family to be?

Me, I want to make sure they have a solid roof over their head, fresh food daily and "energy" available throughout the year...no matter what war or what president....
I want solar panels in the field below my house, I want to recycle the rain water every season, I want to grow plants and fruit trees, get a few cows and a pony for my kids.
I will offer public education in Florence, a Roman Amphitheater around the corner from our house, and the opportunity to grow learning a few survival tricks that, trust me on this one, we'll all need to put to good use one day!

And now I am going to tell my wife,
wish me good luck.

Gabriele

Testing the Aero Garden

For Valentine's day, Deborah got Gabriele a present...
it turned out to be an interesting project and a very long testing experiment (about 11 weeks)...for the whole family.

The Aerogarden has been see on TV and in various specialized stores around the country, and I am sure that many of you had for a moment the thought: "Mmmmhhh, interesting. that's why Deb and I decided to feature in this first episode two very dear friends of ours, Rosanna and Matteo. The good recipes are still secretly hidden into very old Tuscan homes, like The Farm Pacina, in Castelnuovo Berardenga, a little town that rests on the hills between the Chianti Area and Siena.

Pacina was originally an Etruscan site, then it became a convent in the nine hundreds and after eight centuries the property was sold by the church and became private. A few celebrity guess attended, a lot of food was cooked and eaten, a lot of Chianti bottles were opened and finished. It was truly a happy celebration.

The piece will come out the 2nd or 3rd week on January, and one of my best kept secret recipes will be revealed: Pappa al Pomodoro. This Tuscan Peasant Soup made of stale bread and tomatoes is one of those dishes that look very easy on paper, but then you go to the restaurant and you are always served something different; usually it comes to you in form of tomato soup with a slice of bread...with some garlic, if you're lucky...how sad!
This is why, as soon as the article will come out, Debi and I will cook this dish and post it as the first episode of our second season.

Oh yes, we're done for the moment. Deb is shooting this week, and in a few days we will leave for Italy, where we finally enjoy a few weeks of family life in the country. And again, food and wine, lots of both.
We are already working on a shoot list for our trip, as we want to acquire as much footage as we can, to be featured next season on the show.

Thank you all for your incredible support! This project started almost as a joke less then four months ago, and the feedback is somewhat humbling.

Remember, it is not about being a chef, or thinking that being a cook is less then being a chef...it is about feeding!

So, these coming holidays, feed your loved ones, fill them up, serve good wine, make them smile. See what you think:

'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.

So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.'
Rebecca- age 8

'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.'
Billy - age 4

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'
Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.'
Chrissy - age 6

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'
Terri - age 4

'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.'
Danny - age 7

'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss'
Emily - age 8

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.'
Bobby - age 7
(Wow!)

'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,'
Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.'
Noelle - age 7

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.'
Tommy - age 6

'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.'
Cindy - age 8

'My mommy loves me more than anybody
You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.'
Clare - age 6

'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'
Elaine-age 5

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.'
Chris - age 7

'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day'
Mary Ann - age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.'
Lauren - age 4

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image)
Karen - age 7

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross.'
Mark - age 6

'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'
Jessica - age 8

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.
The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

'Nothing, I just helped him cry'

iTunes is back...hopefully!

A full upload of the website just finished, and we finally reconnected with the iTunes Store.
Usually it takes about 24 hours to refresh the Podcast Directories, and even longer for larger directories like Google...

I guess, only time will tell. That carried over to him cooking for the family, every-night, for 6 years, and 2 daughters later, here in the U.S.
I have some guilt about this, so i have made the decision to be better in the kitchen ,like all of the generations of men and women that pull it off effortlessly. I want my children to have the memories of wonderful dinner parties, tradition, great smells wafting through the house, that bring you back to another time....

I was on location with my acting work while pregnant with my first child. It was a glorious period in my life…I worked on a TV show that didn’t freak out about my impending body morphing ,and id come home to wonderful home-cooked meals with my new husband...He took such great care of me, and one weekend while I was away, he sat down, and wrote a love-letter/cookbook for me more or less. It was called THE TUSCAN COOKBOOK FOR THE PREGNANT MALE. I was blown away by the content, the 70 recipes, the love and the simplicity in his writing and cooking style. I gained 75 lbs that pregnancy…I think he gained about 20 as well. It was such fun to feed my sudden urges, and just say, “what the hell!" and eat whatever I wanted because it my 1st pregnancy!!! Plus it was all incredible Italian food…

We thought we'd share the book, especially with men to be able to teach them how to get into the kitchen without being overwhelmed, and cook for their partner's and unborn children.
As it would turn out, we discovered that publishers aren’t interested in cookbooks for men, since they don’t buy them. A book agent said to me: "Why dont you write anecdotes in it, like :"What you and Madonna were eating in the 80's after the clubs"....and I was like "We werent eating!!! We were 20 years old, and partying!!!".
Hollywood never ceases to amaze me.
The book had nothing to do with anything but food, love and parenting.

SO...
We let it collect dust, while we had a 2nd child (I gained 80 lbs on that one!!!). I’ve have never been interested in writing books for just money. As an actor, I have had opportunities to try. I remember when I was pregnant, I was asked to write a pregnancy style book, but I thought..."Why?"...
I need to work from my heart, and do things more organically. I’m sure I’ll write a great "something" one day, but it has to come out of passion, and having some free time would help...
Both Gabriele and I thought it would be wonderful to share the book, as is, publish it ourselves, and distribute over the Internet…
I thought it would be fun to try to film a recipe, and literally show people how easy, getting a great meal together actually is. We shot an episode and had so much fun, that we were inspired to continue. Food has formed me as a person in a lot of ways, literally.
To share a meal with anyone is so intimate, and real... I thank my husband for making the effort...After all, he isn’t a chef by profession, and I feel blessed to have someone love me enough to feed me and our kids everyday, and keep it interesting and delicious!
This is my first 'blog' entry ever...I’ll keep it shorter in the future!!!

Debi

The Lazy Husband? By the time my greencard came through, Evelina was already born: it was July 2002.
During Deb's pregnancy we got married, we moved to our new house...we have been nesting like crazy...all of a sudden, close to the due date I realized: I GOT PREGNANT. I gained about 20Lb! I cooked a lot, watched a lot of movies, got to know Los Angeles and spent a lot of time with Deb...loving every moment of it!

Deb's career took a hit for a moment...you know, Hollywood and pregnancies... then Entourage came along, and after two years Giulia arrived and made us the family we are now.

I have been trying to build a career for myself, but at the same time I found myself so busy carrying the house and caring for the kids, every single day...
It has not been a choice, that's just how things went.
Deb got back to work, and I...well. I was bringing Evelina to school,
cooking breakfast for Giulia, doing the groceries, cleaning up a bit (we do have some help, I am not playing martyr here...), doing some music in the early afternoon, get Evelina from school, make dinner for everybody, do the dishes or wash the kids, put them down........

Even if you are a very ambitious musician/producer/whatever: when you wake up at 6 every single day, work your ass off until nine o'clock...well. I am not going to a club, I'm not going in my studio to bang on my drums...I kiss my wife and I pass out. Then for sure, something will happen aroung 1.30 or 2 a.m.,
one of the girls will eventually end up in bed, and kick the hell out of me until I decide it's time for coffee....and again. You can start reading the paragraph again...because it will be my day!!!
At the end, even if one night I decide to go out, I will end up paying the price for a three hours sleep for the whole week.

AND I DO LIVE WITH THREE GIRLS, I AM GROWING OVARIES HERE!!!

BUT, when I put everything in perspective.
My girls have me! I am here, all the time...even if I am closed in my studio in the back. I come in for lunch and make sure everybody is well fed and taken care of,
I dry some tears if necessary or get down on the lawn for a half hour and Play, Hug, Laugh, Kiss, Comfort, RAISE my kids.

I do love my father, but I do not remember hugs when I was a kid.
I know, different times. When I was born my father was a young doctor, and I remember more the phone ringing in the middle of the night that I remember him kissing me or telling me he loved me.
Please do not get me wrong here: I do love my father, He made me what I am, and I amd very proud and truly grateful for his hard work...at the end I have a very tight family. Me, my mom, dad and brother are a very strong and devoted to each other.

NOW,
Evelina is five years old: she bakes cakes, she chops onions (yes, supervised), she makes frittata...she loves gardening and she knows her way around my herbs...she loves Tuscany. Giulia is one and a half years old, and she knows the name of any dish I cook...If she passes by the stove and I got something going on she MMMHHSSSS, pasta or meat or pizza....she crackes me up.

AND I AM SO PROUD.

Hollywood is a very tough place, and even if I do have jewish blood in me, and I always thought at myself as a very motivated and ambitious musician...
Well, this place kind of takes away the poetry that made me change my life for music...many of us fellow artists end up very resentful and bitter to the business...it literally changes your world...and when your bubble burst...oh my brother, it's a real shit!

My bubble bursts about every two years...I put much energy and honesty in what I try to achieve in Hollywood music wise or production wise...then my Florentine naivitee gets a wake up call....I look around...
AND I AM HAPPY.

Yes, I get frustrated and angry, and pissed off...
But I turn my head and I look at my girls, and a smile whipes everything away.
I do know that I have a purpose, and everything in that department is going very well. I am proud of myself, I am proud of my family...I know that we are strong,
and all is good.

I am sorry for the long post, but I was very happy to come across that article, It made me feel like sharing more with the dads...the way I wanted to do it in the beginning...THE PREGNANT MALE EXSISTS!

For all you fathers out there, if by any chance you come accross this page and feel compelled to...
write me, join our community, share you stories and log in to learn to cook tha best food for your family. Trust me, it's easy, and we'll make it fun. Plus, if you are in conditions similar to mine...a cooking project with your girls can be a valid alternative to wear pink butterfly wings, dress/undress dolls for the 20th time, or go over all the names of their dolls once again...
At the end, you might have cooked youself a snack or even dinner....
NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU GOT HELP IN THE KITCHEN!!!

Ciao

Gabriele

THANK YOU ALL!!!

Debi and I would like to that you all for the incredible support!

The feedback we are getting on this little website of ours is incredible, and we both are happy and a bit stunned, since we are self producing every aspect of it, and we started it just for fun...to share with friends.

We are currently experiencing an average of 900 hits a day,
with a peak yesterday of about 1400 pages viewed...
As of now we only have 10 pages published.

Again, we are not professional bloggers,
we are just happy at the idea that somebody might be cooking our recipe tonight!

Thank You again,
so very much.

Debi & Gabriele

At The Groceries Store

So, I finally see it on the shelf...violently surrounded by Rachel Ray in various outfits, on various book covers...
I get the book in my hands, I start flipping pages to get an idea:...how to toast nuts (uh,...ok), fish soup (with corn?, since when?), and then BHAM!!!
Something kind of expected, but still very surprising, and then, at the end, well...absolutely shocking.
I found the recipe for Spaghetti with "Meat Balls"!!!
Yes, I know, I am an Italian in a country of American Italians...and I am learning...and I truly love it...it is very interesting to see how Italy "lives" here, in terms of heritage and history...
BUT, my point is: I was not going through Scorsese's Mom Cookbook. The book I had in my hands less than an hour ago is marketed as a pure italian one...
As I am reading the recipe, I could not believe my eyes...3 tablespoons of ketchup!!! WHAT?
